Health
& Safety

Poor safety standards are not tolerated in any construction-related industry, and at Kings Valley Paving we believe in a proactive approach that prevents on-the-job accidents from happening. We are committed to our crew and our clientele, and safety is our top priority. Our teams undergo ongoing safety training regularly and maintain a set of up-to-date certifications. By reviewing appropriate practices on a regular basis, they are able to work efficiently without taking unnecessary risks. We also perform a site analysis before handling larger projects in order to develop a safe work plan, and we emphasize a fast, controlled response to emergencies.

Toolbox & Tailgate Talks

Tailgate Talks occur on a monthly basis and involve all on-site workers and labourers. These meetings are generally conducted in-house or at the job site prior to the commencement of any job. We draw attention to hazards, equipment, tools, environment and materials to inform workers of the risks in their surroundings. This is an opportunity for workers to address any concerns they may have and/or discuss any recent on-site incidents. Measures are put in place to prevent such incidents from recurring.

Job Risk & Safety Assessment

Before all projects are started, we will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the environment, task layout and project implementation. All notable issues will discussed and addressed before the project commences.

WHMIS

The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System is Canada's national hazard communication standard. The key elements involve hazard classification, cautionary labelling of containers, the provision of safety data sheets (SDSs) and worker education and training programs. We are WHMIS certified and follow and uphold this standard. This includes health and safety at work with certified representatives on site.

Defensive Driving & Traffic Control

All of our truck drivers have been certified in defensive driving. This course is implemented as part of the company's health and safety regulations and all new drivers are required to have this certification when hired.

IHSA

The Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA) works with employers and workers in Ontario to eliminate occupational injury and illness. We have two company representatives that are IHSA certified: one for our on-site workers/labourers and another for our office staff.
